Bitcoin Reclaims $80,000 as Solana Hits Record Activity and Circle Gains Momentum

Bitcoin surge links crypto markets to Wall Street

Bitcoin has climbed back above $80,000, driving gains across the crypto sector and highlighting how closely digital assets are now tied to traditional financial markets. The rally was supported by the US Treasury's plan to increase certain long-dated bond buybacks, which helped boost risk appetite across the board.

The market recovery also saw Ether gain nearly 30% to trade above $2,500, while crypto-linked stocks such as Coinbase, Robinhood, Canaan, MARA Holdings, and Strive posted double-digit gains.

Key market movements

  • Bitcoin extended its weekly advance past 23%, reclaiming the $80,000 level.
  • Ether gained nearly 30% in the same period, trading above $2,500.
  • Solana processed a record 4.2 billion onchain transactions in July.
  • SOL surged 40%, breaking above $100 for the first time since February.
  • Circle shares have risen about 40% over the past month.

Strategy's capital access remains the main concern

A recent report from Regime Intelligence suggests that Strategy, the largest institutional Bitcoin holder, faces more risk from tightening capital markets than from a drop in Bitcoin's price. The company holds 840,447 BTC, valued at $66.7 billion, which backs $22 billion in debt and preferred claims.

While stress tests show Bitcoin would need to fall 96% to threaten the company's ability to cover its convertible notes, analysts warn that a collapse in equity markets could make it difficult for Strategy to raise fresh capital. This could force the company to sell Bitcoin to meet its obligations.

Strategy has sold BTC four times since May, but CEO Phong Le stated the company accumulated 25 times more during the same period and plans to resume purchases.

Circle positioned for USDC growth cycle

Bernstein analysts maintain an Outperform rating on Circle (CRCL) with a $140 price target, citing a potential new growth cycle for its USDC stablecoin. USDC is a digital dollar token backed one-to-one by US dollars and short-term US Treasuries, designed to maintain a stable value.

USDC supply grew by roughly $2 billion in seven days, ending a six-month stretch of stagnant growth. Analysts point to renewed crypto momentum, clearer US regulations, and growing demand from AI agents as drivers for the next phase of expansion.

Circle's share of adjusted stablecoin transaction volume has risen from roughly 40% in 2025 to over 60% in 2026, overtaking competitor Tether's USDt.

Solana hits transaction record amid RWA growth

Solana's network activity reached a new high in July with 4.2 billion transactions, up 13.5% from June and 91% from December. The surge in usage coincided with a 40% rally in SOL.

Data from RWA.xyz shows that nearly $4 billion worth of real-world assets are now tokenized on Solana. Tokenization is the process of converting rights to an asset into a digital token on a blockchain. Across all tracked networks, distributed real-world assets have surpassed $38 billion.

Regulatory outlook remains uncertain

President Trump renewed calls for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, which would establish clearer rules for crypto markets in the United States. However, the bill remains stalled after lawmakers failed to advance it before the August recess. Trump also revived the prospect of government Bitcoin purchases, though neither outcome is currently assured.

What drives the current recovery

The latest market rebound appears closely linked to macroeconomic conditions, particularly the Treasury's bond buyback plans and broader risk-on sentiment. For companies like Strategy and Circle, access to traditional capital markets and stablecoin adoption are proving just as critical as Bitcoin's price performance.
