Bitget to End Services for Some Users, With Account-Specific Deadlines
Bitget announces selective service termination
Crypto exchange Bitget said on Oct. 17 it will stop serving an unspecified group of users. The exchange will send private notifications to affected accounts with individual deadlines and withdrawal instructions. The platform will continue operating normally for all other customers.
Bitget called the move "a one-off exercise for certain users only." Affected customers will receive emails, in-app messages, and/or push notifications with their next steps. The exchange said its support team would help with withdrawals, pending orders, and other account questions.
What the terms say about restricted countries
Bitget's English-language terms of use, updated on Oct. 16, list Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan as prohibited jurisdictions. The terms state that people residing or operating in those countries are not eligible to use its services.
In a reply on X (formerly Twitter), Bitget's official support account confirmed the same country list when asked about restrictions on Russian users. The account said the exchange does not support those users "to comply with various countries' regulations." Neither the support reply nor the main announcement named a specific regulatory order or licensing action behind the terminations, nor did they say how many accounts are affected.
One user reports an Oct. 21 deadline
A user posting as FrontMan said on Oct. 16 that he was among those affected and that his notification gave him until Oct. 21 to withdraw funds. The main Bitget statement did not set a common deadline, instead directing customers to the instructions specific to their individual accounts.
Unrelated to earlier security breach
The service-termination announcement did not link the decision to Bitget's Sept. 24 wallet breach. In a Sept. 25 update, the exchange said approximately $387.5 million had been transferred to attacker-controlled addresses. The two events appear separate.
Bitget says funds remain safe
The exchange stated that users' funds remain safe. Customers who have not received an official notification can continue using their accounts as usual, subject to the platform's terms and conditions.
