Hunter Biden's LAPTOP token spikes to $300 then loses 99% of value
LAPTOP token spikes then crashes
The new LAPTOP memecoin, launched by Hunter Biden on the Base blockchain, began trading shortly after 8 a.m. ET on September 9, 2026. Within minutes the price rose above $300 per token, giving the token a market value of roughly $110 billion. The price then fell more than 99 % in a matter of minutes.
Key numbers
- 1 billion tokens total supply.
- 10 % (100 million) reserved for an initial airdrop.
- Substack subscribers could claim 4,276 tokens each.
- At the $300 peak, each claim was worth about $1.3 million.
- After the crash, price fell to around $2, making a claim worth about $8,000.
- More than 80 % of the 11,500+ buying wallets were in loss.
Token distribution details
The airdrop targeted anyone subscribed to Biden’s Substack before September 6. In addition, 2 % of the supply is set aside for traders who lost money on the Trump memecoin. Thirty percent of the tokens go to founders, including Biden, but these are locked for six months and vest over two years. Another 30 % is linked to real‑world prediction outcomes; tokens will be burned or donated to charity depending on results.
Market reaction
Data from Bubblemaps shows that most large holders were new wallets funded within the ten days before the launch, many on the launch day itself. Thin liquidity and the rapid price drop made it difficult for holders to realize the paper gains seen at the peak.
Why it matters
The event illustrates how a token can achieve a very high market cap in a short time when a large airdrop is combined with low liquidity. It also shows the risk of rapid price swings for meme‑based cryptocurrencies.
