Revolut Says Customer Money and Data Are Safe After Outage Hits Payments and Crypto Services

Revolut confirms an outage affecting payments, transfers and crypto

Digital banking platform Revolut suffered a service disruption on Tuesday that affected card payments, transfers and cryptocurrency services, according to The Defiant. Its UK status page still showed services as partially unavailable at 6:51 a.m. ET on Oct. 20.

The company said on X that customer money and data were safe. In a statement published at 3:54 a.m. ET, Revolut said it had been working to fix the issue since identifying it that morning and apologized to affected customers.

Which services were listed as affected

  • Revolut's status page listed incidents affecting sign-in, ATM withdrawals, card top-ups and internal transfers.

  • Business transfers, its business apps and merchant payments were also listed.

  • The disruption covered access to accounts and the movement of money.

  • Digital asset services were grouped under a single "Cryptocurrency" notice.

What Revolut told customers

In its statement on X, Revolut said: "We can confirm that all our customers' money and data are safe." The company said it had been working to fix the problem since identifying it that morning and apologized to customers affected by the disruption.

What the timeline shows

Revolut's support account acknowledged the disruption by 2:35 a.m. ET. The affected-service notices on the status page carried a later detection time of 3:47 a.m. ET. Revolut did not give an exact onset time.

The company's incident notices said its team was investigating and working on a fix, and that it would update the status page once the issue was resolved.

What is confirmed

Revolut confirmed a disruption affecting card payments, transfers and cryptocurrency services, along with sign-in, ATM withdrawals, card top-ups, internal transfers, business transfers, business apps and merchant payments. The company said customer money and data were safe and that it was working on a fix.

What is still unclear

Revolut did not say exactly when the disruption began. The status page grouped digital asset services under one "Cryptocurrency" notice and did not specify whether crypto buying, selling, deposits or withdrawals were individually unavailable. At the time of the report, the status page still listed services as partially unavailable.

Why this matters

Revolut is a digital banking platform used for everyday payments and transfers, and its status page also covers cryptocurrency services. During the outage, customers could face problems signing in, moving money or using cards, and the company has not yet said which specific crypto functions were affected.
