U.S. Bitcoin ETFs Shed $679 Million as Two-Day Withdrawal Reverses Weekly Gains

Bitcoin ETFs Flip to $679 Million in Weekly Outflows

U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs, which are investment funds that track a single asset's price on a stock exchange) recorded $678.9 million in net outflows during the week of Oct. 5–9, 2026, according to The Defiant's calculations of Farside Investors' daily data. That figure reverses the $241.1 million in net inflows the funds attracted during the preceding week of Sept. 28–Oct. 2.

The combined two-week period now shows $437.8 million in net withdrawals, meaning more money left the funds than entered across the ten trading sessions.

Key Numbers from the Week

  • Weekly net outflow: $678.9 million (Oct. 5–9)
  • Previous week's net inflow: $241.1 million (Sept. 28–Oct. 2)
  • Combined two-week swing: $920 million shift
  • Combined two-week net: $437.8 million in withdrawals
  • U.S. spot bitcoin ETF combined net assets: $105.84 billion (as of Oct. 9)

Two Sessions Drove Most of the Withdrawal

The bulk of the outflow came from two trading days. The funds lost $484.9 million on Oct. 7 and $244.1 million on Oct. 8, a combined total of $729 million, according to Farside's figures.

BlackRock's IBIT led the Oct. 7 withdrawals at $207.7 million, followed by Fidelity's FBTC at $105.1 million and ARKB at $101.7 million. FBTC then led the next day's exits with $197.1 million.

Outflows were not continuous throughout the week. The week opened with an $89.8 million outflow on Oct. 5, followed by a $118.8 million inflow on Oct. 6. It ended with a modest $21.1 million inflow on Oct. 9, when IBIT's $22.4 million intake and HODL's $2.3 million inflow outweighed FBTC's $3.6 million withdrawal.

Annual Balance Stays Positive Despite the Reversal

The withdrawal chipped away at the momentum from late September. The Defiant reported on Sept. 28 that seven sessions through Sept. 25 had attracted $2.98 billion, returning the funds' 2026 net flows to positive territory.

SoSoValue's data shows the annual balance remains positive. A separate calculation by The Defiant using that provider's cumulative-flow totals puts 2026 net inflows at about $500 million through Oct. 9, down from about $940 million through Sept. 25.
