What the Jharkhand Public Service Commission is

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission was constituted after the state was carved out of Bihar in 2000, and it is responsible for recruitment to government posts in Jharkhand. Its combined civil services examination runs in three stages, preliminary, mains and interview, with a qualifying physical test for some posts.

The commission operates a one-time registration system, so a candidate creates a single profile that is reused across subsequent applications rather than filling a fresh form each time. That makes the stored photograph and signature a persistent part of the record: a file that was accepted once keeps being carried forward into later recruitment drives, and an image that failed validation tends to fail again until it is replaced.

Start from www.jpsc.gov.in for the JPSC notification. Where a third-party page lists a different size from the one in the table above, the notification wins, and a corrigendum published later can supersede both.

This page sets out the numbers JPSC actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.

What the JPSC form asks you to upload

Two images are required, and a failure in either one holds up the application. They are:

  • A photograph at 3.5 x 4.5 cm, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
  • A signature at 3.5 x 1.5 cm, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.

The JPSC numbers, and why they matter

JPSC publishes its sizes in both units, which means the record is offering you two ways to express the same kind of requirement. Pick the row that matches how your own advertisement is worded: centimetres when the notification states a physical frame, pixels when it states a resolution. They are alternatives published for different notifications, not a sequence to apply in turn.

Resolution appears more than once in the JPSC record, at 200 and 96 DPI. That is not a contradiction: the physical frame is the same in both, and the choice is how densely the image is stored. Where an advertisement is silent, the 200 DPI row is the safer one, because a denser image still measures correctly at a lower resolution while the reverse is not true.

JPSC sets a floor as well as a ceiling. The photo has to land between 50 KB and 500 KB, and the signature between 50 KB and 500 KB. A file far below the minimum can fail the portal check even though it is technically under the limit, which is why the tool exposes a minimum field next to the maximum.

The JPSC record offers 4 photo options and 3 signature options: 3.5 x 4.5 cm; 160 x 200 px; 130 x 170 px. These come from different notifications and different recruitment streams rather than from one form, so there is no single right answer to which to use. Take the size from the advertisement you are actually applying under, and if it names a size that is not listed here, enter it by hand in the width and height fields.

If the JPSC application refuses your file

  • When JPSC refuses a file, weight is the first thing to check, because 500 KB leaves limited room. Look at the final size on the result card. If it sits above the limit, the source was cropped too loosely: tighten the frame and compress again.
  • Check the signature separately from the photo. A 3.5 x 1.5 cm box with a wide margin around the writing will breach the 500 KB ceiling on its own, which is a different fix from anything that applies to the photograph.
  • A third attempt with the same settings will produce the same result. Read the current notification again, because the specification is corrected by corrigendum from time to time and the values in this tool follow the specification as recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cropping to a face, choosing a compression level, and the reasons a correctly sized photograph still gets refused do not vary by exam, so those are covered in one place rather than repeated here. See the complete photo and signature guide.

FAQ

Short answers for the questions users ask before trusting the result.

3.5 x 4.5 cm at 96 DPI, in JPEG, with the file kept at or under 500 KB and not under 50 KB. That row in the table is the preset the tool applies when JPSC is selected.

3.5 x 1.5 cm at 96 DPI, in JPEG, capped at 500 KB with 50 KB as the floor. Crop close to the ink so the empty paper around it does not push the file past the ceiling.

500 KB at most, and not below 50 KB. After processing you can see the produced file weight beside the stated limit on the comparison card, so there is no need to download and inspect it to find out where you landed.

Download as JPEG and upload that file untouched. Opening it in another editor first is the quiet way to end up with a weight that no longer matches the requirement.

The stored JPSC preset has 3.5 x 4.5 cm, 160 x 200 px, and 130 x 170 px photo rows, plus 3.5 x 1.5 cm and 100 x 90 px signature rows. All are JPEG at 50-500 KB; use the row named in your advertisement.

That is the stored ceiling in the tool, not a quotation from the notice. A clean JPEG near the middle of the range is safer than a heavily compressed file that looks blurred.
