What the Bangladesh Public Service Commission is
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission is the constitutional body that selects for employment in the civil service of Bangladesh. Its examinations are organised in four families: the BCS examinations for the cadre civil service, non-cadre examinations for departmental posts, departmental examinations, and senior scale examinations. The BCS cycles are large, with single circulars covering many thousands of posts across cadre and non-cadre categories.
Two practical details make the photograph worth sorting out early. The commission publishes a dedicated photo and signature validator, together with a picture resize utility, on its application site, so the dimensions can be confirmed against the commission's own check rather than guessed at. It also asks for square image dimensions rather than the portrait proportions used by Indian exam boards: the stored photograph is 300 by 300 pixels and the signature 300 by 80 pixels, with a 100 KB ceiling and 50 KB floor for the photograph.
The BPSC notification itself is on bpsc.gov.bd. Check the upload section of that document before generating files, since these requirements are revised between recruitment drives and the values stored in this tool follow the recorded specification.
This page sets out the numbers BPSC actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.
What the BPSC form asks you to upload
Two images are required, and a failure in either one holds up the application. They are:
- A photograph at 300 x 300 px, no heavier than 100 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
- A signature at 300 x 80 px, no heavier than 60 KB and no lighter than 30 KB.
| Item | Size | Format | Max file size | Min | DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 300 x 300 | JPEG | 100 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 300 x 80 | JPEG | 60 KB | 30 KB | 96 |
The BPSC numbers, and why they matter
BPSC uses square image dimensions, which is the detail most likely to catch people out. The photograph and signature are framed on a square canvas rather than the portrait aspect ratio used by most exam boards, so the face has to be centred in a square with margin on both sides. Cropping to the familiar narrow portrait shape will leave the image the wrong proportions no matter how many pixels wide it is.
Worth knowing that BPSC works in both directions. The photograph must be no larger than 100 KB and no smaller than 50 KB, and the signature no larger than 60 KB with 30 KB as its floor. Overshooting the ceiling is the usual mistake; undershooting the floor is the one that surprises people who compress hard.
If the BPSC application refuses your file
- If BPSC refuses a file, start with the weight on the result card against the 100 KB, then look at the picture. At this ceiling, an uncropped phone photo straight off the camera will not fit, so crop before you compress rather than after.
- The signature is judged on its own 300 x 80 px box and is not rescued by a correct photograph. If it is rejected, the usual cause is loose cropping: a signature scanned with a wide white margin carries more weight than the 60 KB allowance and fails even though the writing itself looks right.
- Repeating an identical submission is the most common wasted step here. Compare the values above against the live notification, and if the notification has moved, change one value at a time rather than re-running the whole form.

The mechanics of the crop step, the face mask overlay, and the compression trade-off are identical across all of these tools, so they have their own guide instead of a section on every page. Open the full photo and signature guide.
