What the Rajasthan Public Service Commission is

The Rajasthan Public Service Commission is based at Ajmer and recruits for Rajasthan state services, running the combined competitive examinations as well as direct recruitment to subordinate posts. Applications are submitted through the commission portal and the same uploaded photograph and signature follow the candidate through screening, the examination and document verification.

Rajasthan is the one board in this group that asks for a higher resolution than the usual 200 DPI. The stored specification is a 3.5 by 4.5 centimetre frame at 300 DPI for both the photograph and the signature, which works out to roughly 413 by 531 pixels. That is denser than the 200 DPI figure most boards use, so an image prepared for a 200 DPI requirement will be softer than what Rajasthan expects, and the resolution is worth setting deliberately rather than inherited from a different application.

The official RPSC site is rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in. Take the photograph and signature numbers from the notification published there rather than from a third-party summary, since that document is the one the portal was built against.

This page sets out the numbers RPSC actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.

What the RPSC form asks you to upload

Two images are required, and a failure in either one holds up the application. They are:

  • A photograph at 3.5 x 4.5 cm, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
  • A signature at 3.5 x 1.5 cm, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.

The RPSC numbers, and why they matter

The RPSC specification is physical: the table is in centimetres and the resolution requirement is 300 DPI. This is the case where resizing by eye in a phone gallery usually goes wrong, because the same measurement maps to different pixel counts depending on the DPI it is saved at.

RPSC asks for 300 DPI, which is above the usual 200 DPI figure. That higher resolution produces a larger pixel count for the same physical frame, and it is the reason a photo resized down from a much larger file can look softer here than it would on a board with a lower requirement.

RPSC sets a floor as well as a ceiling. The photo has to land between 50 KB and 500 KB, and the signature between 50 KB and 500 KB. A file far below the minimum can fail the portal check even though it is technically under the limit, which is why the tool exposes a minimum field next to the maximum.

If the RPSC application refuses your file

  • When RPSC refuses a file, weight is the first thing to check, because 500 KB leaves limited room. Look at the final size on the result card. If it sits above the limit, the source was cropped too loosely: tighten the frame and compress again.
  • Check the signature separately from the photo. A 3.5 x 1.5 cm box with a wide margin around the writing will breach the 500 KB ceiling on its own, which is a different fix from anything that applies to the photograph.
  • When two identical files are both refused, the file is usually not the variable. Re-check the notification against the table above, since a corrigendum between your two attempts is the usual explanation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to position a face inside the crop frame, and how far to push compression before quality suffers, is the same lesson for every exam, so it sits in a single shared guide. See the complete photo and signature guide.

FAQ

Short answers for the questions users ask before trusting the result.

3.5 x 4.5 cm at 300 DPI, in JPEG, with the file kept at or under 500 KB and not under 50 KB. That row in the table is the preset the tool applies when RPSC is selected.

3.5 x 1.5 cm at 300 DPI, in JPEG, capped at 500 KB with 50 KB as the floor. Crop close to the ink so the empty paper around it does not push the file past the ceiling.

500 KB at most, and not below 50 KB. After processing you can see the produced file weight beside the stated limit on the comparison card, so there is no need to download and inspect it to find out where you landed.

Download as JPEG and upload that file untouched. Opening it in another editor first is the quiet way to end up with a weight that no longer matches the requirement.

The stored RPSC rows are a 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo and a 3.5 x 1.5 cm signature at 300 DPI, JPEG at 50-500 KB. Use that resolution only if your advertisement asks for it.

The RPSC preset stores only 300 DPI rows. If your notice accepts a lower resolution, convert the image and confirm the upload instructions first.
