What the Tripura Public Service Commission is
The Tripura Public Service Commission recruits for Tripura government posts, covering gazetted Group A services such as Assistant Tourist Officer and departmental posts across the administration. Its current openings are advertised on the Tripura online services portal.
The stored Tripura specification marks two of its presets as preferred: a 130 by 170 pixel photograph and a 100 by 90 pixel signature. That square-ish signature box is wider than the usual 3.5 by 1.5 centimetre rule and is worth noticing, because a signature prepared to the narrow common size will need extra width to look right in it. The same record also offers the standard 3.5 by 4.5 centimetre and 3.5 by 1.5 centimetre frames at both 96 and 200 DPI, so you can follow the notification whichever form it uses.
Start from tpsc.onlinetripura.in for the TPSC notification. Where a third-party page lists a different size from the one in the table above, the notification wins, and a corrigendum published later can supersede both.
This page sets out the numbers TPSC actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.
What the TPSC form asks you to upload
There are two separate uploads to prepare. They are:
- A photograph at 130 x 170 px, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
- A signature at 100 x 90 px, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
| Item | Size | Unit | Format | Max file size | Min | DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 130 x 170 | px | JPEG | 500 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Photo | 3.5 x 4.5 | cm | JPEG | 500 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Photo | 3.5 x 4.5 | cm | JPEG | 500 KB | 50 KB | 200 |
| Signature | 100 x 90 | px | JPEG | 500 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 3.5 x 1.5 | cm | JPEG | 500 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 3.5 x 1.5 | cm | JPEG | 500 KB | 50 KB | 200 |
The TPSC numbers, and why they matter
TPSC publishes its sizes in both units, which means the record is offering you two ways to express the same kind of requirement. Pick the row that matches how your own advertisement is worded: centimetres when the notification states a physical frame, pixels when it states a resolution. They are alternatives published for different notifications, not a sequence to apply in turn.
The TPSC table lists DPI values of 200 and 96 against what is otherwise the same frame. Both entries describe identical dimensions, so the decision is resolution quality rather than size. Take the higher value unless the notification names the lower one.
There are two limits to satisfy for TPSC, not one. The upper bound on the photo is 500 KB and the lower bound is 50 KB; the signature runs 50 KB to 500 KB. Compression that overshoots is easy to fix by lowering quality again, but a file under the floor cannot be fixed by compressing further, it needs a larger source image.
The TPSC record offers 3 photo options and 3 signature options: 130 x 170 px; 3.5 x 4.5 cm. These come from different notifications and different recruitment streams rather than from one form, so there is no single right answer to which to use. Take the size from the advertisement you are actually applying under, and if it names a size that is not listed here, enter it by hand in the width and height fields.
Some TPSC presets are labelled preferred in the stored specification, including 130 x 170 px for the photo and 100 x 90 px for the signature. The label signals what the commission expects to see most often. It is a preference rather than a restriction, but where the notification leaves the choice open, the preferred row is the safer pick.
If the TPSC application refuses your file
- When TPSC refuses a file, weight is the first thing to check, because 500 KB leaves limited room. Look at the final size on the result card. If it sits above the limit, the source was cropped too loosely: tighten the frame and compress again.
- For the TPSC signature, keep the crop tight around the ink. The 100 x 90 px frame is small, so every extra millimetre of empty paper is weight you do not have, and the 500 KB ceiling does not leave room for it.
- A third attempt with the same settings will produce the same result. Read the current notification again, because the specification is corrected by corrigendum from time to time and the values in this tool follow the specification as recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions
Cropping to a face, choosing a compression level, and the reasons a correctly sized photograph still gets refused do not vary by exam, so those are covered in one place rather than repeated here. Open the full photo and signature guide.
