HEIF To JPG Converter

Convert a HEIF or HEIC image into a .jpg file for upload forms, job portals and older devices that reject HEIF. Pick one file up to 100 MB, lower the Quality slider to meet a size limit, preview the result and download it with the three-letter .jpg extension. All processing takes place in your browser and the image is not uploaded.

HEIF to JPG in Your Browser

HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) is the container standard behind the photos many modern phones and cameras take when set to a "high efficiency" mode. Apple's version carries the .heic extension, while other devices and apps often write .heif. Either way, the result is the same headache: the image will not open on an older computer, will not attach to a form that only lists JPG, and confuses software that has never heard of it. The HEIF to JPG Converter reads that file and writes a .jpg copy that practically everything accepts.

The output is pinned to JPG on this page. You cannot switch formats here, the other format buttons are disabled, and a message confirms "Output is fixed to JPG for this tool".

Why the .jpg Spelling Matters

JPG and JPEG describe the same image format. The three-letter version dates from old Windows systems that limited extensions to three characters, and it stuck. Most software treats both the same, but some upload validators do a plain text comparison on the extension. Job portals, visa and exam application forms, school assignment systems and some marketplace listings are known for rejecting photo.jpeg while accepting photo.jpg. This page writes the .jpg extension so the file passes those checks without any manual renaming. If you need the four-letter version instead, the HEIF to JPEG Converter does that.

Walkthrough

  1. Click Browse File or drag the image onto the "Drop HEIC/HEIF photo here" area.
  2. The tool reads the file locally. While the status says "Decoding HEIC..." it is unpacking the HEIF data; this label is the same for HEIF files.
  3. Check the details card: file name, Original Size, and Dimensions. If the dimensions look right, the decode worked.
  4. Set the Quality slider. For an upload form with a size ceiling, lower it in small steps and watch Converted Size until it fits.
  5. Press Download to save the .jpg file.
  6. Press Convert Another for the next image.

Hitting a File Size Limit on an Upload Form

Application portals often say something like "JPG only, under 200 KB" or "under 1 MB". The Quality slider is your main lever here because it controls compression without touching the pixel dimensions. A practical method:

  1. Start at the default 90 and note the Converted Size.
  2. If it is too big, drop to 80, then 70, then 60, checking the Converted preview each time.
  3. Stop at the highest setting that fits the limit.
  4. If even a low setting is too large, the image has too many pixels for that limit. Resize it in an image editor or a resizing tool after converting, then compress again.

Forms that also demand specific pixel dimensions or DPI need a separate resize step; this converter does not resize.

Privacy

The HEIF file is decoded by JavaScript running in your own browser tab, drawn to a canvas, and exported as JPG by the browser. There is no upload to a Newisty server for this conversion. The resulting JPG does not carry over the source's EXIF data, so location, device model and timestamps are not included.

A Word on Orientation and Colour

Phones often record which way up a photo should be shown as a metadata flag rather than rotating the pixels themselves. Because the converted JPG is drawn from the decoded image and does not carry the original metadata, glance at the Converted preview before uploading. If a picture appears sideways in the preview, rotate it in an editor or on the device and convert again. Colours may also look slightly different on some screens, since wide-gamut HEIF photos are rendered into the standard colour space a browser canvas uses.

Who Uses It

  • Applicants preparing photos for online forms that only accept .jpg.
  • Owners of Android phones or mirrorless cameras that save in HEIF and need to share with friends on older devices.
  • Office staff receiving HEIF attachments that their document system will not store.
  • Anyone who wants to convert a private picture without sending it to a third-party server.

Dos and Don'ts

  • Do keep your original HEIF; JPG is lossy and cannot be turned back into the original.
  • Do zoom into the Converted preview before settling on a low quality value.
  • Don't just rename .heif to .jpg; the file contents must be re-encoded.
  • Don't expect transparency. JPG has none, so transparent areas become black.
  • Don't select several files expecting a batch; only the first is processed.

Limitations

  • One image per conversion and a 100 MB cap.
  • Acceptance is based on the .heif or .heic extension only.
  • Multi-image HEIF files, such as bursts or sequences, yield only the first image.
  • High bit-depth HEIF images are reduced to standard 8-bit colour.
  • No resizing, cropping or rotation controls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Các câu trả lời ngắn gọn cho những thắc mắc mà người dùng thường đặt ra trước khi tin tưởng vào kết quả.

Yes. The file picker and the check both accept .heif and .heic, since both are HEIF-based. The output is a .jpg file in either case.

Not directly. The tool only accepts names ending in .heif or .heic, so a .HIF file is rejected as an invalid file.

Lower the Quality slider step by step and watch the Converted Size. If it still does not fit at a low setting, resize the image in a separate tool, because this converter keeps the original dimensions.

It is saved with the .jpg extension. Use the HEIF to JPEG Converter if you need .jpeg.

No. Decoding and JPG encoding happen in your browser, so the file is not sent to a server for conversion.

HEIF compresses more efficiently than JPG. At high quality settings the JPG is often larger; reduce the Quality slider to bring the size down.

No. Each run handles one file. Click Convert Another after each download.
