What this tool does

This editor takes one image, lets you crop it to a 16:9 frame, and resizes the result to 1280 by 720 pixels. The crop step is optional. You can leave it off and resize the whole image, or enable it and choose the exact area that becomes the final frame.

The processed file is created on the server and returned as a download. The page is a focused size tool: it does not add text, filters, borders or layers. Its job is to produce a predictable 1280 by 720 output.

Why 1280 by 720 and 16:9

1280 by 720 is a common HD video frame, a YouTube thumbnail size, a presentation slide size and a web hero image size. Its 16:9 ratio matches most monitors, phones in landscape and video players, so an image prepared at this size fills the frame without letterboxing.

A 16:9 crop is wider than a square or a portrait photo. A tall subject will lose the top or bottom unless you zoom out and accept empty space at the sides. Check the preview before processing, especially when a face or a product sits near an edge.

Crop or resize

With the cropper enabled, drag the box to the area you want and confirm. The crop box is locked to 16:9, so the selection always matches the output ratio. With the cropper disabled, the entire image is resized to 1280 by 720, which can stretch a non-16:9 original.

Stretching is sometimes acceptable for a background or a texture, but it distorts people, text and logos. For those, use the crop. If the subject does not fit 16:9, consider a different output size rather than forcing it into this frame.

The crop is applied in the browser on a canvas, then the resulting image is uploaded for processing. A very large source can be slow to draw; close other heavy tabs if the preview stalls.

Quality and format

The quality default is 95 percent. That keeps most detail while producing a smaller file than a 100 percent export. Lower values reduce size further but can introduce visible blocks around sharp edges and small text.

The format selector lists the output formats the server supports, typically JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and BMP. JPEG is the usual choice for photos, PNG for graphics with flat colour or transparency, and WEBP for a smaller web file when the destination accepts it.

If the output looks soft, check whether the source was smaller than 1280 by 720. Upscaling cannot add detail; the server can only interpolate the pixels it receives.

Process and download

After choosing the crop, format, quality and dimensions, press Process. The page uploads the image, waits for the server response and enables the Download button. The download uses the file name returned by the server, so it may not match your original name.

If processing fails, the page shows the server message. Common causes are an unsupported format, a file above the 20 MB limit or a temporary upload error. Try a smaller file or a standard JPEG or PNG.

Privacy and limits

The image is uploaded to the server for processing. Do not use the tool for private identity documents or confidential client work unless you are comfortable with that. The cropper preview happens locally, but the final file is processed remotely.

The upload limit is 20 MB per image, and the page handles one image per run. It does not batch, does not preserve EXIF metadata and does not offer a local-only export. Very large panoramas may fail before the crop step finishes.

Common uses

Prepare a YouTube thumbnail, a 720p video still, a presentation cover, a blog hero image or a consistent set of product images. A fixed 1280 by 720 frame keeps a gallery or a video series visually aligned.

For a thumbnail, keep the main subject inside the safe area and avoid placing small text near the edges, where platform overlays may cover it. For a hero image, leave room for a headline if the page will add one.

Making a thumbnail that survives overlays

Video platforms and social feeds often place a duration badge, a title strip or a play button over the thumbnail. Keep the main subject and any important text away from the edges and away from the lower-right corner. A face that fills the frame may be partly covered even when the crop looks correct in isolation.

Check the thumbnail at a small size, not only at full width. Fine detail and thin text disappear on a phone feed. Use strong contrast, a simple composition and one clear subject rather than a busy collage.

Output size and quality

A 1280 by 720 output at quality 95 is a good balance for most thumbnails. The file size still depends on the content: a detailed photo can be several hundred kilobytes, while a flat graphic may be much smaller. The tool does not target an exact KB value; lower the quality if you need a smaller file.

If the source is narrower than 1280 pixels, the result will be upscaled and soft. Start from a larger original, crop to 16:9, and let the resize step reduce it rather than enlarge it.

When a different size fits better

1280 by 720 is not the right frame for every project. Full HD video is 1920 by 1080, a square social post is 1080 by 1080, a link preview is often 1200 by 628, and a vertical story is 1080 by 1920. Forcing a portrait subject into 16:9 can leave large empty sides or cut off the head.

Choose the size from the destination, not from this page. If the platform recommends a different ratio, use a tool built for that ratio rather than padding or stretching a 1280 by 720 file.

Transparency and format

JPEG does not support transparency; transparent areas become a solid colour, usually white or black. PNG and WEBP can preserve alpha, which matters for logos and cut-out graphics. GIF supports transparency but with limited colour and no animation after processing.

If the crop removes the transparent border, the output may look tighter than expected. Check the preview and choose a format that matches the content.

Check the output at its real display size before publishing.

常见问题解答

针对用户在信任结果之前常提出的疑问,提供简短解答。

The cropper is enabled by default with a 16:9 ratio. You still choose the area; the output is resized to 1280 by 720.

Yes. Disable the cropper to resize the whole image. A non-16:9 source may be stretched.

20 MB per image.

No. One image per run.

JPEG for photos, PNG for flat graphics or transparency, WEBP for a smaller web file.

No. Upscaling interpolates pixels and cannot recover detail. Start from a source at least 1280 pixels wide.

No. It only crops, resizes, converts and compresses.

Yes, for server-side processing. The crop preview is local, but the final file leaves your device.
