HEIC To JPG Converter

Convert an iPhone HEIC or HEIF photo to JPG directly in your browser. Choose one file, set the JPEG quality, preview the result and download it. The photo is not uploaded to a server.

This page is for ordinary still photos. It does not crop, resize to a preset, remove backgrounds or preserve transparent pixels. Read the limits below before using the output for an official form.

HEIC to JPG Converter

What this HEIC to JPG converter does

HEIC is the still-image container Apple uses on iPhone and iPad. It keeps good quality at a small size, but many Windows PCs, Android phones, websites and upload forms still expect a JPG. This page converts one HEIC or HEIF photo into a JPG in your browser. You choose the quality, run the conversion, compare the original and converted previews, then download a file with a .jpg extension. Nothing is sent to a server, so the photo stays on your device.

Why iPhone photos are hard to open elsewhere

Apple stores photos as HEIC to save space. The format is efficient, but support outside the Apple ecosystem is uneven. A photo that opens perfectly on an iPhone may look like an unknown file on an older Windows computer, inside a web form, or in a basic image viewer. Renaming the file does not change its contents; the bytes are still HEIC. A real conversion decodes the HEIC image and writes a new JPEG file, which is why the extension alone is not enough.

How the conversion works

The page loads the heic2any library in your browser. That library decodes the HEIC image, and the page draws the result on a canvas before exporting JPEG data. The original file is not uploaded, and no account is required. The trade-off is that the work happens on your device: very large photos use more memory and may take longer on an older phone or laptop. If the browser cannot decode a particular HEIC variant, the conversion fails instead of sending the file somewhere else.

How to convert a photo

Open the converter and choose a HEIC or HEIF file with the browse button, or drag the file onto the drop area. The tool accepts one image at a time. Set the quality slider if you want a smaller or cleaner JPG. Press the convert button and wait for both previews to appear. Check the converted image, especially faces, text and sharp edges, then use the download button. The downloaded file uses the original base name with a .jpg extension.

Choosing a JPEG quality

The quality slider starts at 90 and can be set from 10 to 100. A high value keeps more detail and creates a larger file. A value around 75 to 85 is a practical compromise for email, websites and most application forms. Very low values can create visible blocks around text, hair and high-contrast edges. JPEG is lossy, so each re-save can remove more detail. Keep the original HEIC until you are satisfied with the JPG; do not repeatedly convert and re-convert the same output.

File size and image limits

The upload control allows files up to 100 MB. That is generous for a phone photo, but a large panorama or a burst export can still be heavy. The check is based on the file extension, so a renamed file is not guaranteed to work. Multi-image HEIC files, such as some burst or Live Photo exports, can produce more than one decoded image. This page expects a single image and may fail or show an error when the library returns an array. Export a single still photo first if that happens.

Transparency, colour and metadata

JPEG does not support transparent pixels. If a HEIC image contains transparency, the converter fills the canvas background, and that background can appear black in the current build. Convert to PNG in another editor if you need a transparent result. The tool does not provide controls for colour profiles, EXIF orientation, GPS location or camera metadata. It also does not promise a particular colour space. For ordinary photos the result is usually close, but colour-critical work should be checked in a proper image editor.

Privacy and browser behaviour

Because the conversion is local, the photo is not transmitted to Newisty. That is useful for personal pictures and documents. Local processing is not the same as permanent deletion: the browser still holds the image in memory while the tab is open, and your download folder keeps the output. Close the tab when you are finished, and avoid converting sensitive images on a shared or public computer. The page does not bypass device security, cloud backups or browser sync.

Common problems and fixes

If the page says the file is unsupported, confirm that it is really HEIC or HEIF and not a renamed JPG. If the preview is black where you expected transparency, that is the JPEG background limitation. If the file is extremely large, close other tabs and try again. If the download is much smaller than expected, raise the quality. If the image looks rotated, check it in a viewer that respects EXIF orientation. If a multi-image file fails, export a single photo from the Photos app and retry.

When JPG is the right output

JPG is a sensible choice for sharing photos, attaching images to email, uploading to a profile or applying for a service that explicitly asks for JPG or JPEG. It is not the best choice for logos, screenshots with sharp text, transparent graphics or images that need lossless editing. Those usually work better as PNG. The converter deliberately writes JPG, so use a different tool if the destination requires PNG, WebP or a specific pixel size.

What not to do

Do not rename a HEIC file to .jpg and assume it is converted. Do not use a heavily compressed JPG as your only copy of an important photo. Do not upload private images to a random converter just because it is convenient. Do not expect this page to crop, resize to an exact passport size, remove a background or repair a damaged photo. It performs one job: decode a single HEIC/HEIF image and export a JPG.

Frequently Asked Questions

常见问题解答

针对用户在信任结果之前常提出的疑问,提供简短解答。

HEIC is Apple's HEVC-based image format and is part of the wider HEIF family. People often use the names interchangeably, but not every HEIF file uses the same codec, so a file labelled HEIF can still fail in a converter that only handles common iPhone HEIC files.

No. The conversion runs in your browser with the heic2any library and a canvas. The image is not sent to Newisty's server. Your browser and device still process the file locally, so close the tab and manage the downloaded copy according to your own privacy needs.

JPEG has no alpha channel. The current converter fills the canvas background before exporting, and that fill can appear black. If transparency matters, use an editor that can export PNG with an alpha channel instead of forcing the file into JPG.

This page accepts one file at a time. Some HEIC exports contain multiple images, and the decoding library can return an array rather than a single image. That case is not handled here. Convert a single still photo, or use a batch editor if you have a whole folder to process.

Start at 90 for important photos and lower it only if the file is too large. Values around 75 to 85 often work well for web use. Check the preview at normal size, because fine text and hair show compression damage first. Keep the HEIC original until the JPG looks right.

The page does not expose controls for EXIF, GPS, camera model or colour profiles, and it does not promise to preserve them. Treat the output as a new JPEG. If metadata matters for your workflow, inspect the file in a metadata tool before publishing or sharing it.

The file may be a multi-image HEIC, a less common HEIF variant, or a file larger than the 100 MB limit. It may also have been renamed from another format. Export a single still image from the Photos app, confirm the extension, and try again in a desktop browser with enough free memory.
