Aptos token sees significant gains over four-week period
The Aptos token, known as APT, increased in value by 51.1% during the four weeks leading up to October 13, 2026. This growth significantly outpaced major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether during the same timeframe.
The price of APT rose from approximately $0.56 on September 15 to $0.84 by October 13. By the end of this period, the total value of all APT tokens in circulation, known as market capitalization, reached about $744 million. APT is primarily used to pay network fees on the Aptos blockchain, which is a digital ledger used for recording transactions.
Key growth metrics and comparisons
- Aptos (APT) gained 51.1% over the four-week period.
- Sui (SUI) saw a slightly higher gain of 52.6% in the same window.
- Bitcoin and Ether grew by 9.5% and 4.5%, respectively.
- Solana (SOL) recorded a 10.1% increase.
- During the final seven days of the period, APT remained nearly flat with a 0.8% return, while other compared tokens fell by more than 10%.
Aptos Foundation confirms token lock commitment
The Aptos Foundation recently reaffirmed a pledge made in February to lock and permanently stake 210 million APT tokens. Staking involves locking up digital assets to support a network's operations in exchange for rewards.
The Foundation stated that these specific tokens will never be sold or distributed to the public. Instead, the rewards earned from staking these tokens will be used to fund the Foundation's ongoing operations. This move is intended to support the network without selling off the locked supply.

Contrasting trends in stablecoin market cap
While the price of the APT token increased, the amount of stablecoins on the Aptos network declined. Stablecoins are digital assets designed to keep a steady value, usually tied to the U.S. dollar.
Data shows that the value of tracked USD-pegged assets on Aptos fell by 17.5% over the four-week period. The total dropped from approximately $1.103 billion to $909.6 million. These figures represent the assets held on the blockchain rather than the actual volume of payments being made.
Changes to token supply expected in late 2026
A significant change to the token supply is scheduled for October 2026. This marks the end of a four-year period where tokens were gradually released to early investors and core contributors.
Once this cycle ends, the amount of new tokens entering the market each year is expected to drop by 60%. This reduction in the supply of new tokens is part of the original plan for the project's token economy.
