DTCC Subsidiary Launches Tokenization Service for Major Financial Firms

DTCC Unit Brings Tokenization to Traditional Securities

The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), has launched its official tokenization service. This new platform allows eligible users to create digital tokens that represent securities held at the DTC.

The DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) allows for the conversion of traditional securities into digital forms and back again. These digital assets can be moved to digital wallets—software used to store and manage digital assets—while keeping the same ownership rights and legal protections as traditional stocks.

Major Financial Firms Join the Platform

  • Twenty major clients have already signed agreements to use the service.
  • Participants include large financial names such as JPMorgan, Fidelity Investments, Citi, and Citadel Securities.
  • Other early users include Alpaca, Clear Street, DriveWealth, and Interchange Clearing.

Regulatory Approval and Asset Scope

The launch follows a long period of preparation and regulatory review. In December 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a "no action" letter, which indicated the agency would not take enforcement action against the program. The service follows a pilot program that took place in July 2026.

The DTC manages more than $114 trillion in assets under custody, which includes assets like stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). An ETF is an investment fund that trades on stock exchanges similarly to individual stocks.

Current and Future Network Integration

The service is currently available on the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network. Blockchain is the digital ledger technology that records transactions and powers digital assets.

The company stated that this service creates a practical path for the adoption of tokenized securities. There are plans to expand the service to additional blockchain networks starting in 2027.
