OpenSea re-adds Solana NFT trading after four-year gap
OpenSea has reintroduced support for Solana-based NFTs, allowing users to buy, sell, and trade digital collectibles on the Solana blockchain.
The move comes more than four years after OpenSea first launched Solana NFT trading in beta in April 2022. That initial rollout covered only 165 collections and saw limited adoption, as competitors like Magic Eden and Tensor dominated Solana NFT trading volume at the time.
Popular collections now available
Users can now trade well-known Solana NFT collections, including Mad Lads, Collector Crypt, Phygitals, Claynosaurz, and BoDoggos.
Solana’s role in OpenSea’s multi-chain platform
OpenSea’s updated platform, OS2, was rebuilt as a multi-chain system. Solana was the first non-EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) blockchain added for token support, and NFT trading follows that integration. The company noted that Solana NFTs are growing in relevance due to their use in many collectibles platforms.
OpenSea’s other supported networks are mostly EVM-compatible, such as Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Base.
NFT market context
The relaunch happens as the broader NFT market remains well below its 2021–2022 peak. Monthly trading volumes, once in the billions, now sit in the hundreds of millions, according to data from The Block. Several major NFT marketplaces, including Binance’s centralized service, Nifty Gateway, Kraken NFT, and X2Y2, have closed in recent years.
