Samsung Brings USDC Transfers to US Galaxy Users via Wallet App
Samsung Wallet to Support USDC on Solana for US Galaxy Users
Samsung announced that eligible Galaxy users in the United States will be able to send USDC stablecoins across borders through Samsung Wallet, starting in the last week of October.
The feature will roll out across 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices. A stablecoin is a cryptocurrency designed to hold a steady value, in this case pegged 1-to-1 with the U.S. dollar.
Instead of offering a separate crypto app, Samsung built the functionality directly into Samsung Wallet, including fiat on- and off-ramps that let users move money between dollars and USDC.
How the Service Will Work
- Users can send USDC to compatible external wallets on the Solana and Sui blockchains.
- The service is powered by Bastion, a licensed stablecoin custodian, with Coinbase serving as its sub-custodian.
- Transfers to bank accounts in more than 60 countries will also be available, with funds delivered in the recipient's local currency.
- Samsung said it will not charge a fee for the transfers, though recipient wallets or exchanges may apply their own fees.
- Transfer speed will depend on network conditions.
What the Partners Say
Woncheol Chai, executive vice president and head of Samsung's digital wallet team, said in a statement: "Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet already on your phone."
Alec Lovett, Coinbase's head of infrastructure products, called the launch "a significant distribution milestone for USDC," noting that Coinbase Prime will custody the USDC held in Samsung Wallet.
Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, said: "This level of adoption is what we built Solana for, and we're seeing the moment when stablecoins stop being a crypto product and start being how people move money."
Partnership Background
This move expands a partnership between Samsung and Coinbase that began last year, when Samsung allowed U.S. Galaxy users to fund Coinbase accounts through Samsung Pay.
Samsung said it plans to bring the service to additional markets in the future, subject to local regulatory requirements.
What Is Confirmed
Samsung has published an official statement confirming the launch timeline, the 82-million-device reach, the partnerships with Bastion and Coinbase, and the initial USDC-on-Solana capability for U.S. Galaxy users.
Why It Matters
The integration brings cross-border stablecoin transfers into a mainstream smartphone wallet, potentially reaching tens of millions of users without requiring them to install a dedicated crypto app or manage private keys themselves.
What Happens Next
Samsung plans to expand the service to more countries, pending regulatory approval in each market. The U.S. launch is scheduled for the last week of October.
