Samsung Wallet to Add USDC Stablecoin on Sui Blockchain Starting Late October

USDC on Sui Coming to Samsung Wallet

Samsung Wallet will allow eligible U.S. Galaxy users to hold and send USDC on the Sui blockchain starting in the last week of October. The feature was announced on Oct. 7 by both the Sui Foundation and Samsung.

The stablecoin — a cryptocurrency designed to stay pegged 1-to-1 with the U.S. dollar — will be the only token supported at launch. Samsung says it will not support the native SUI token itself.

Who Will Have Access

  • Eligible U.S. residents aged 18 or older
  • Owners of a compatible Galaxy device running Android 13 or higher
  • Users who complete registration, identity verification and biometric setup

Samsung says its compatible U.S. Galaxy device base is approximately 82 million.

Custody and Security Details

Users will not control their own private keys. Bastion will provide the custodial infrastructure, with Coinbase acting as sub-custodian and safeguarding the USDC through Coinbase Prime Vault. Samsung stated it will not hold customer funds directly. All transfers will require biometric authentication on registered devices.

Transfer Options and Fees

Users can send USDC to compatible external wallets with no fee from Samsung, though recipient wallet providers or exchanges may charge their own fees. A separate route will let eligible users send funds to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with recipients receiving local currency. Those bank transfers will carry fees that vary by destination and amount.

Sui says users will be able to send USDC on its network without paying network fees or holding SUI to cover transaction costs.

What Was Announced Before

This launch follows Samsung's July announcement that Samsung Wallet would add stablecoin support. It also builds on a July 2025 integration that let users fund Coinbase purchases using Samsung Pay.

Online purchases and in-store tap-to-pay with stablecoins were described as possible future capabilities, not part of the October launch. Samsung also noted that expansion into additional markets is a future possibility tied to local regulatory developments.

Why This Matters for Samsung Wallet Users

The rollout gives a clear timetable and named partners to Samsung's previously vague stablecoin plans. For the roughly 82 million eligible U.S. Galaxy devices, it means a simpler way to move a dollar-pegged cryptocurrency without needing a separate crypto wallet app.

What Is Still Unclear

Samsung has not disclosed the exact fee structure for bank transfers across the 60+ supported countries, nor has it given a specific date beyond "the last week of October." Details on which external wallets will be compatible have also not been shared.

The launch is currently limited to the U.S., and it is unclear when or whether Samsung will expand to other markets.
