GPAT photo, signature and thumb impression

GPAT is a pharmacy entrance test administered through the NTA portal. The application can ask for a photo, signature and thumb impression, and each file has its own shape and byte window. This page applies the stored GPAT presets.

Stored GPAT uploads

Upload Shape Byte window Format DPI
Photo 3.5×4.5 cm 10–200 KB JPEG 200
Signature 3.5×1.5 cm 4–30 KB JPEG 200
Thumb impression 4×3 cm 4–50 KB JPEG 200

These are stored values. The GPAT information bulletin is the authority; confirm which uploads are required and what limits apply. The presets have not been changed.

Capturing the thumb impression

Use the thumb named in the bulletin, press it evenly on plain white paper and avoid smudging. Photograph the print from directly above and crop tightly around the ridges. A faint or partial print is harder to rescue than a slightly soft photo because the ridges are the only detail.

Photo and signature

Use a recent colour photo on a plain background, with the face centred and eyes open. For the signature, use dark ink on white paper and keep the full stroke inside the frame. Check each file separately before uploading.

Common GPAT upload mistakes

The thumb impression is the upload most often missed. A dark, smudged print or one photographed at an angle can fail even when the byte size is correct. The signature can also fall below 4 KB if it is very simple. Check all three files separately, and keep the originals in case the portal asks for a replacement.

Keep a backup of all three files

Store the processed photo, signature and thumb impression together with the originals. If one upload is rejected, replace only that file and keep the others unchanged.
