What OJAS is

OJAS is the Maharashtra government's Open Jurisdiction Account System, the online platform through which applicants open and operate a bank account and complete the payments required to enrol with a particular group in the state. Using it means submitting identity details and documents to the state government rather than to an examination board, which is why the photo and signature requirements follow identity-proof conventions rather than exam conventions.

This record has the smallest numbers on the entire site. The photograph is 3.6 by 5 centimetres and the signature 7.5 by 2.5 centimetres, both with a ceiling of 15 KB and a floor of just 1 KB, and both are marked preferred. A one kilobyte floor is unusually low, which means quality rather than weight is the constraint: there is no pressure to compress hard here, so the useful thing to do is start from a sharp photograph and stop well short of the ceiling.

This page sets out the numbers OJAS actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.

What the OJAS form asks you to upload

The application expects a pair of files, and each is checked on its own. They are:

  • A photograph at 3.6 x 5 cm, no heavier than 15 KB and no lighter than 1 KB.
  • A signature at 7.5 x 2.5 cm, no heavier than 15 KB and no lighter than 1 KB.

The OJAS numbers, and why they matter

Notice that the OJAS figures are measurements in centimetres, not pixels. At 96 DPI a 3.5 by 4.5 centimetre frame is a specific pixel count, and the tool derives it rather than guessing. A photo that is the right number of pixels but the wrong DPI reads as the wrong size to a portal that checks both.

OJAS is among the tightest specifications on this site. The photograph ceiling is 15 KB with a floor of 1 KB, which is a small fraction of what most exam portals allow. A photo straight off a modern phone camera will be several times that size, so the crop and the compression are both doing real work here rather than just tidying up.

Several OJAS presets are labelled preferred in the stored specification, including 3.6 x 5 cm for the photo and 7.5 x 2.5 cm for the signature. The label signals what the board expects to see most often across its notifications. It is a preference rather than a restriction, but where the notification leaves the choice open the preferred row is the safer pick.

If the OJAS application refuses your file

  • A OJAS rejection usually comes down to one of two things. Either the file is over 15 KB because the crop left too much empty background, or the photo itself has a non plain background, a tilt, or a filter. Fix the weight first since it is measurable, then the photograph.
  • For the OJAS signature, keep the crop tight around the ink. The 7.5 x 2.5 cm frame is small, so every extra millimetre of empty paper is weight you do not have, and the 15 KB ceiling does not leave room for it.
  • Two identical rejections usually mean the specification moved rather than the file. Compare the table above against the current notification before you generate a third attempt.

Frequently Asked Questions

A dedicated guide covers the crop frame, the face mask, and the compression range, none of which change with the exam you are applying to. Open the full photo and signature guide.

FAQ

Short answers for the questions users ask before trusting the result.

3.6 x 5 cm at 96 DPI, in JPEG, with the file kept at or under 15 KB and not under 1 KB. That row in the table is the preset the tool applies when OJAS is selected.

7.5 x 2.5 cm at 96 DPI, in JPEG, capped at 15 KB with 1 KB as the floor. Crop close to the ink so the empty paper around it does not push the file past the ceiling.

The ceiling is 15 KB and the floor is 1 KB. Compression runs on export until the output fits, and the result card prints the achieved weight against the limit rather than leaving you to check it yourself.

JPEG. Save it in that format when you download. Converting afterwards, or letting a messaging app re-encode it, adds weight and can quietly change the dimensions the portal measures.

The stored OJAS photo row is 3.6 x 5 cm and only 1-15 KB, so the portrait must be tightly cropped and compressed. Check the notice before you submit.

Crop closer to the signature, lower the JPEG quality in small steps, or scan at a lower resolution. The stored row allows 1-15 KB.
